How to make a condensed soup taste really good.

There are a few tricks I always have up my sleeve for busy dinners, but none compare to the powerful and moving can of soup trick. Don't let simplicity fool you, folks. I get a good pot of soup on the table in 20 minutes with these ideas.

Tomato Soup:

  • Try adding some fresh diced herbs to your tomato soup. I love thyme or parsley, and basil is a dream. Dried herbs work fine as well.
  • Try adding a shake or two of spicy pepper, or even a whole dried chili pepper to the pot!
  • Use broth instead of water, it will boost the flavor.
Cream of Anything:
  • Add some fresh vegetables, this could be anything from greens to sliced green beans.
  • Dice one or all of the following then cook stirring occasionally on medium heat using a bit of oil a dash of salt and a pinch of sugar: 1 carrot, 1 stick of celery, 1/4-1/2 onion,  1-2 medium size potatoes, and zucchini or summer squashes. Cook until browned then add the liquid as called for on your can, stirring to make sure the delicious browned vegetable bits are absorbed into your soup. You'll have a hardy stew! (try this with a tomato or a cream o' whatever soup)
  • Add some rice, brown rice is really flavorful and nice.

Good dinner to you!
